Elkin Collection – Fall 2014

It’s pretty obvious that Emma Roberts is becoming a style icon. The young starlet has a knack for pairing cool outfits with chic accessories … and let’s be honest, she has the dream hair we all wish for. So it makes a lot of sense that Elkin, an LA-based brand designed by sisters Brit and Kara Smith, would choose Roberts as a muse. Oh, and they all happen to be best friends too.

“It’s funny because when we started Elkin, we knew exactly who our girl was and what she was about … and now she has a face,” explained Kara Smith via email. “Emma has such a wild, fun, creative mind like us and she really identified with this collection. There was no one better to have around us during the FW14 design process and there was obviously no one better to model it.”

The trio hung out together conceptualizing the fall line, which is comprised of flowing dresses, tailored tops and cute separates inspired by a ’60s-meets-’90s aesthetic. “It’s classic but it also injects elements of decades past, using the ’90s and ’60s as some of [Emma’s] (and our) favorite eras to play with,” Brit Smith wrote to us. “The three of us always talk about how we love a dark, ’90s witchy look mixed with a classic ’60s French-inspired boarding school girl sort of look. So we merged these two looks for this collection.”

The lookbook was shot at the Paramour Mansion in Silver Lake, California, a locale that’s been everything from a school for girls to a movie set. “It felt like the three of us were playing dress up and running through Miss Havisham’s house or ‘The Secret Garden.’ It was like being at sleepover camp with your best friend … we were constantly laughing.” See the results of their fun day below.
